Position Overview
The Waste Transfer Station Plant Operator plays a critical role in the efficient operation of Litchfield Council's Waste Transfer Stations. In this casual position, you will be responsible for operating heavy machinery such as forklifts, backhoes, and front-end loaders while ensuring that waste and recyclables are managed according to best practices.
Your duties will include assisting customers, monitoring waste materials, maintaining safety standards, and conducting routine inspections of equipment. You will work on a rotating roster that may include weekends.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will possess a blend of technical skills, interpersonal abilities, and a strong commitment to safety.
- Experience in the waste management industry, particularly with transfer stations.
- Proficient in operating a backhoe, forklift, and front-end loader.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable using two-way radio communication effectively.
- Dedicated to adhering to Work Health and Safety regulations.
- Able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Capable of managing time efficiently.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including weekends and potential overtime.
- Possess a current C-Class Driver's License, Forklift License, First Aid Certificate, and NT White Card (or the ability to obtain these).
We are looking for individuals who are physically capable of performing manual tasks, including lifting up to 20 kg unaided, and who can present themselves professionally while interacting with the public.
Salary & Benefits
This casual position offers a competitive hourly wage of $53.22, which includes casual loading, plus superannuation. You will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment that values safety, teamwork, and community service.
